About the show

Do you remember the 2000s?

We don't*.

So to remind ourselves we created a spreadsheet of every. single. record. Which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 songs and the Billboard Top 200 Records between 1999 and 2013 and is tagged on RateYourMusic as either Pop Punk or Emo Pop.

Gotta Get Out of This Town is a podcast retrospective where we listen to all of those record chronologically. Because we have very poor judgment in making life choices.

* Sibyl does, but she's old, and won't for much longer.

Episodes

  • Episode 31: Finch - What it Is To Burn

    29 March 2021  |  Season 4  |  1 hr 15 mins
    2002, emo, finch

This week when the house lights go all dark, we shuffle on down to the trash of 2001 emo-pop and dig like possums to find... Finch! We did not, in fact, get stuck in the intake vent, but at least one third of the hosts enjoyed this album, so that's also good.

  • Bonus Episode 3: 2020s Pop Punk Round Up

    22 March 2021  |  Season 0  |  1 hr 25 mins
    round-up

  • Episode 29: Lit - Atomic

    9 March 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 18 mins
    2001, lit

For the third week in a row we are forced to be negative about an album and Elaine has a near breakdown on this one cause she just. wants. to. be. positive. about. things. Also Fletcher has a lot of good one liners this week.

  • Episode 28: Relient K - The Anatomy Of The Tongue in Cheek

    1 March 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 38 mins
    2001, punk, relient k

Today, thanks to Relient K, we offer you the one kind of content EVERYONE who chooses to listen to a pop punk retrospective is there for: two queer people talking about christianity and religion. Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

  • Episode 27: Sugarcult - Start Static

    23 February 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 12 mins
    2001, punk, sugarcult

This week Elaine is sad because she has to be negative about an album. Which as we all know absolutely never happens on this podcast.

    16 February 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 6 mins
2001, charting singles, jimmy eat world, punk

This week the show's darling return, as we take a look at Jimmy Eat World's Bleed American. It's good.

  • Episode 25: Saves The Day - Stay What You Are

    2 February 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 24 mins
    2001, emo, saves the day

On this week's episode we talk about hearburn, buying burritos at 1A.M, Flea's solo career, the difference, or lack thereof, between Korn and The Red Hot Chilly Peppers, that time when Disney shrunk DEVO and off-brand muppets. Oh we also listened to an album, but... yeah, we also listened to an album

    19 January 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 37 mins
2001, blink 182, charting singles, punk

In this episode we continue the lengthy Blink 182 saga and talk about a record that is just a big masturbation joke. We also give a brief history of TRL and make fun of Weezer, so it's a classic episode of Gotta Get Out of This Town!

  • Episode 23: Fenix TX - Lechuza

    12 January 2021  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 20 mins
    2001, fenix tx, punk

We conclude the epic saga of Fenix TX. Where they were in 2001? Where are they now? Join us for the epic conclusion!

    29 December 2020  |  Season 3  |  1 hr 33 mins
    2001, charted, emo, post-hardcore, thursday

This week the episode is a bit wonky because everyone but fletch was tired and sick. But you know what is also sick? This record! Like... sick as in good? That's a thing people say right? It's a good record.
